The hal authentication bits didn't change since Karmic. S hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sde (every 2 sec) 5389 ? S hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdd (every 2 sec) 5392 ?

If you aren’t, that may be why you don’t have access to some controls on the computer.

The Access Denied error could occur if parental controls have been turned on.
